Payá history

Payá Hermanos, is one of the most important toy companies in the Spain of the last century.
Payá manufacture 0 scale trains in 1920's, and in 1932 they launched the first electric locomotive produced in Spain, and after having manufactured almost half a century ago tinplate trains of scale 0, launched in 1948, its first small scale trains, first S scale and later, in 1958, H0 scale trains.
That was a daring bet in a depressed Spain, with a tight family economy and in the bosom of a dictatorship.
The industrial means in those times were scarce, the materials limited and deficient.

And to demonstrate, of course, the high level of technology and finishes that Payá achieved at different times in the history of its production, which unfortunately ended in 1984 due to the massive intrusion of the Chinese toy industry.

Payá H0 continuous two-lane trains

Payá, in the beginnings of his career with H0 scale trains, made an attempt with two-rail DC trains, and that there were tracks and even thin turnouts in the style of the Märklin 3900.
The engines of these kits with the references 1601, 1603, 1604 and 1607 had insulated wheels, and had neither skid nor inverter. What they did have inside was a selenium plate rectifier of the time, and therefore they could operate with direct current. Thus, by means of a normal, ordinary transformer like the Jyesa type, the trains were able to run on two-rail trains and the hobbyist was able to change the direction of travel of the engines on the track remotely by changing the polarity.
Payá's two-rail adventure was short-lived, although due to the existence of a TAF case equipped with a tension tower and selenium rectifier, it can be assumed that this adventure lasted at least until 1952.

Subsequently, the DC trains of this early phase of the H0 scale disappeared, and many two-rail engines were equipped with the AC engine skid, and thus could run on AC track, although reversing was not possible in this case, or was only possible when the engines were equipped with a manual switch of the S scale.
